What is a phlebotomist?
The BLS states that phlebotomists draw blood for purposes such as tests, research, or donations. They help patients or donors who are anxious before or have an adverse reaction after the blood draw.
In addition to drawing blood, phlebotomists also may collect urine or other samples. They instruct patients on procedures for proper collection and ensure that the sample is acceptable and clearly labeled in its container.
What does a phlebotomist do?
Per the BLS, as a phlebotomist, you may do all or some of the following duties:
- Draw blood from patients or blood donors
- Explain their work to help relax patients or donors who feel nervous about having blood drawn
- Verify a patient's or donor's identity
- Label the collected blood for testing or processing
- Label sterile containers for other samples, such as urine, and instruct patients on proper collection procedures.

What is the workshop that is included with the Phlebotomy course?
The online phlebotomy technician training course live stick workshop is a three-day workshop where you will practice your technique of performing a proper venipuncture and improving your hands-on skills as a phlebotomy technician. You will be presented with the opportunity to complete the minimum live stick requirements set by the NHA to obtain your Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification. The cost of the workshop is included in the price of your course. However, you are 100% responsible for your own travel arrangements and costs. Ed2go does not reimburse for any travel or accommodations. Therefore make sure that you choose the site that is closest to you.
Where are the current workshops offered, and how do I select a workshop site?
The Phlebotomy workshop course and sites are currently only offered in the following states: AL, MS, FL, TC, NC, SC, GA, and VA. When starting the enrollment process, you will be given a list of options within your state to choose from. You must be in a radius of 50 miles from the workshop site, and you must commit to fully attending a three-day workshop. Once you enroll in the course, our externship team will assist you in lining up your experience after you complete your course.
Does this course prepare me for a certification?
Yes. This course prepares you for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
When can I start this course?
This course is open enrollment, so you can register and start the course whenever you are ready. Access to your course can take 24-48 business hours.
Can I register for courses if I am an international student?
